RAIN... RAIN GO AWAY!

Well although I know I am not alone in this wet and miserable weather, I am whining about it quite a bit lately. This has definitely been one of the most persistently wet winters I recall in a while...

Sure makes the footing slick and mucky when pushing a wheelbarrow full of sopping wet manure! I have seen the sun a couple of times... and the plum tree out front has tiny little leaf buds peeking out so I am definitely looking forward to Spring! The little Yaks are just starting to shed and I look forward to taking the clippers to some woolies very soon!

I am still awaiting 2 new foals to arrive to arrive around April or May... although I am not sure of the status of the 2 Mommy's preggerdom... I have always been nervous about ultrasounding minis, but I think that we need to do this on these girls to narrow down the foaling times (they came to me bred and their due dates are iffy).

We also have a few really fine outside sale horses available right now for GREAT prices! I am posting a few pics that are under $600. Go to our website for more info!

Apples and Secrets

Another interesting week is unfolding! Apple, our yearling black filly who is a Jess Rocky Rabbit Grand-Daughter is going home with Dusty's new owner.... Congratulations Darby! Darby just could not resist Apple's friendly demeanor and sweet/ fun personality.

Secret, our Little Kings Napoleon grand-daughter is going to get an ultrasound next week to confirm her pregnancy and since her due date needs to be narrowed down.

The weather has been wonderful the last few days after some heavy rains. Sunny and in the 50s. But we have a major storm coming on Sunday and will stay with us throughout the week...so I need to get ready.

I am going to go to visit my friend Michelle over at Wesco Farms on Saturday. I may be buying a filly and leasing another mare, so I am excited. I also am trying to help her with her herd reduction sale, so be sure to visit our outside sales page to see some great bargains on some very outstanding horses.

Well I better finish up and get some sleep... it will be a very busy next few days!

What a week it has been... Dusty, my 2nd favorite mare, was sold to a wonderful new owner in the Marysville, CA area. They really make a wonderful match and I am delighted! The weather has been surprisingly good and it gave me time to catch up on some cleaning up of turn outs and paddocks!
I have also been spending lots of time with Dusty's newly weaned colt Flame (a wonderful, but currently very tubby little fuzzball) and with our newest colt Wunsina Blue Moon (born on New Years Eve)

There are still some fences to tighten up before I can turn the babies out into the bigger turn- outs, but I hope this weekend i can get some things done! Best of all, the lady who bought Dusty also wants my black Jess Rocky Rabbit bred filly APPLE.... yes life is good and I am always extra happy when the new owners are such good owners... Well, Tomorrow is another day and another paddock to clean!

Welcome to our Blog!

Well, I suppose that it is time to venture into the 21st century at last, and so we have created this brand new Blog for Viking Wind Farm! So much has happened over the last 2 years, since the farm began it's mini venture.

After over 30 years of owning and riding Large horses from Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses to Andalusians, I finally decided that these creaky bones were getting too old to get knocked around by 1,000 lbs of frisky horseflesh and had to take a serious look at the need to down-size... literally. And I have not regretted a single day since I made that decision!

We hope to share some of our adventures (and misadventures) as we grow and enjoy the day to day experience of ranch life with our diminutive 4 legged friends. Check back for weekly updates and announcements. There will be much to share with our new friends in 2010...
